Okay, okay. I’m usually so nice to you guys, even when there’s some serious shade being thrown, but you’ve really struck a nerve with me here, and I’m about to learn you a thing, so take notes, bitch.

First and foremost, there’s really no reason why you should ever be concerning yourself with what other people voluntarily choose to ink onto their skin, let alone what they choose to do with their bodies in general. The greatest gift in life is individuality, and you can fuck right off if you think you can openly mock someone for that.

Still following me? You’ll want to pay special attention to this next bit.

As far as my own tattoos go, how dare you barge into my ask box with all this negativity. As far as I’m concerned, you know nothing about me besides the small snippets of my life I openly choose to share with all of you. I really try to make it a rule to not have to defend myself to stupid bastards such as yourself, but I’ll go ahead and share with you so we can get this bullshit out of the way.

My Hylian tattoo is one a lot of gamers share, I know this. The Legend of Zelda franchise is one of the most popular ever created, so of course there’s a lot of ink love for it. Growing up, it’s one of the few games my siblings and I played together for hours on end. Even now, as adults living away from each other, we still openly talk about all the hours spent exploring every corner of that universe. Zelda has taught me many things that I hold true to this day, but nothing more important than the fact that I choose to create my own destiny. I choose to carve my path in life no matter the odds. I learned that power isn’t everything in life. If I have the wisdom and the courage to face whatever is standing in my way — even myself. I can be the hero of my own journey. This symbol reminds me of that everyday, and it keeps me going even when I feel at my worst; when I feel small, beaten, and alone.

Bioshock wise, it’s no secret that it’s one of my favorite games. I’ll argue the Andrew Ryan/Cave Johnson debate till I die. I find the philosophy of Bioshock to be incredibly intriguing; Ryan takes hints from Ayn Rand, and even though I despise her core thinking, it’s interesting to watch it play out on screen. I like the idea of Ryan ‘great chain’ ideal. There are no gods, no kings — only man. Every person in rapture was, ideally, a link in the great chain. Everyone played their part to make a strong and unbreakable unit. Of course, that didn’t play out well. I also adored that fact it stood for so much more; not only was Jack a literal slave to Fontaine, but he was also stuck in Ryan’s original ideal. He had to play out his role, therefore strengthening the would-be chain. His link was far more sinister, but necessary in the grand scheme things.

I got the tattoo not only as a homage to a game I feel is one of the best ever created (that’s a story for another time), but as a reminder that I can choose to be a slave to the great chain of life, or I can break free of all demands and expectations. It’s one reason I chose to only get the tattoo on my right wrist. My left is untouched; I’m still free of the great chain. I’m free of masters. I’m free of gods. I choose my actions — I don’t let them choose me.

So yeah, sure, a lot of folks have these tattoos. Yeah, I also adore them for their aesthetic value. But if you think for a second that I got these because I’m keen on jumping on bandwagons, you’ve got another thing coming. Gaming is my entire life, and I equate meaning to all of it. You know nothing of who I am or where I’ve been. I chose these tattoos for my own sake, not to appease you or any other dickwad looking to troll on the internet.

TL;DR: go fuck yourself.

Good day, you little bitch.

I still giggle over this daily, partially because I said CRAVE JOHNSON.

“DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?”
not crave johnson, that’s for damn sure.

National Novel Writing Month is eighteen days behind us, and as you read this, hundreds of acquisitions editors and literary agents are being barraged with shitty poo poo NaNo drafts that haven’t been edited and don’t make no sense.
